Hiring considerations

What employers should plan for

Cayman’s immigration framework changed on 1 May 2026. Employers must now advertise a role for at least 21 consecutive days before applying for a work permit, first-time permit holders are generally expected to stay with their sponsoring employer for two years, and temporary permits can no longer bridge the gap while a full permit is processed.

In practice, that means planning the advertising window and start date from day one — and assessing fit more rigorously, because a mis-hire is now costlier for both sides.

General information only — always confirm current immigration requirements with the relevant authority or your advisers.
